New Zealand’s air services agreements

New Zealand has bilateral air services agreements (ASAs) with the following countries and territories (the current agreement is the most recent year with the dates of earlier agreements also listed):

A Multilateral Agreement on the Liberalization of International Air Transportation ( MALIAT ) came into force on 21 December 2001. Brunei, Chile, New Zealand, Singapore and the United States of America were the initial parties and the Cook Islands, Samoa and Tonga subsequently joined.  

The bilateral agreements New Zealand has with Brunei, Chile, Cook Islands, Samoa, Singapore, Tonga and the United States are suspended as a result.

Peru joined the MALIAT on 17 May 2002 and withdrew with effect from 15 January 2005.

Code-share only Memoranda of Understanding have been agreed with the Bahamas, Curacao,Curacao, the Czech Republic and Mongolia.

There is an open skies Air Transport Agreement between New Zealand and the Separate Customs Territory of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu, incorporated into the Agreement between New Zealand and the Separate Customs Territory of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu on Economic Cooperation.

  1. A 'horizontal' agreement signed in 2006 with the European Commission and New Zealand amends New Zealand's air services agreements with European Union member states.
  2. Countries marked in bold are where services are being provided under this ASA, or under the MALIAT (including code-share only or seasonal).
